How big are Bengal tigers compared to humans?

Back to size. Male tigers are larger than female tigers, no matter their individual subspecies. Additionally, Bengal tigers are commonly smaller than Siberians; Bengals run about 200-300 pounds compared to the Siberian average of 300–500? Rarely 600.

Bombay was a female and on the smallish side for a Bengal tiger. Saigon was a chunk and a male Siberian. So don't forget to consider the male/ female size disparity.

I've heard that Bengal tigers in captivity can grow larger than their counterparts in the wild, but our three Bengal females were smaller than our female Siberian tiger. New research says that isn't always the case.

The tiger's coats were also different depending upon subspecies. The Siberians were fluffier in the winter, and the fullness added weight which made them look larger.

Although not the largest of the tiger subspecies, Bengal tigers are not exactly small. They are certainly heavier than the average adult human. Standing on all four paws, a Bengal tiger's back is about even with our waist.

Compare that Siberian tiger, who will come close to our ribcage when standing. That's big, when you consider a medium size dog hits just past the kness. Siberians can truly be gargantuan. Saigon was kind of a beast. He was not missing many meals, either, if you catch my drift.

Tigers are large animals, no matter their subspecies. That's common knowledge. Humans are half a tiger's size, and we have only about one tenth of their strength. We're in an entirely different weight class.

If a tiger has a problem with you, you're pretty much toast, unless you're heavily armed. Bengal, Siberian, Sumatran- it doesn't matter how tigers compare to each other. Tigers are always going to be bigger than humans. Much bigger.

It's worth noting that tiger size will vary by the individual tiger - subspecies, sex, overall health and captive conditions can all affect a tiger's size. Absolutes are not always approprite in the animal world, so please remember that my numbers are averages.

Lastly, here again is that same Bengal tiger. Not that it's relevant, but this particular cat was the prettiest tiger ever to walk the face of the earth. And the smartest. Just thought I'd mention it, in case you hadn't heard.
