What’s a goldendoodle? Sounds like a funny name, doesn’t it? Well, a goldendoodle is the crossbreed between a golden retriever and a poodle. They were first bred in the 1960s to be guard dogs but now they’re basically companion dogs. Because they’re a crossbreed, they’re not recognized by any official kennels as a breed of their own. But they’re clever, high-energy, fun-loving dogs that can be trained well. They come in a variety of sizes because of their poodle parents.

Goldendoodle Height

Since poodles themselves can come in three distinct sizes – toy, miniature and standard – the goldendoodle too has a big variation in height. Depending on which kind of poodle they’re descended from, the goldendoodle can be bred to have three sizes – standard, medium and miniature or mini. Then there might be a category called petite which is even smaller. 

The golden retriever has a fairly consistent size so it doesn’t matter as much when it comes to the size of the goldendoodle.

Goldendoodle Weight

Again, the weight of a goldendoodle can vary widely according to the kind of parent poodle. A standard goldendoodle weighs around 51 – 80 lb while a medium goldendoodle can range 36 to 50 lb. Miniatures weigh around 15 – 35 lb. Petite goldendoodles can vary between 15 – 20 lb.

Goldendoodle Litter Size

Toy poodles usually don’t grow to more than 9 – 10 inches and 4 – 6 lb, which is considerably smaller than a mini goldendoodle. Thus, an adult labradoodle can be anywhere between 14 and 21 inches at the shoulder. Their weight varies between 18 and 42 lb. Goldendoodles are slightly larger and heavier than labradoodles.
